Your St. Patrick’s party plans start here. What’s happening this weekend

And Suddenly, Black-Market Kidneys Didn't Seem Like Such a Bad Idea

You never generally see people laid up with terrible hangovers after Mother’s Day, nor do you necessarily have friends who throw up on their shoes and make out with a mailbox to celebrate Tax Day. But boy, there’s something about St. Patrick’s Day that brings out the Caligula in people. It’s the kind of weekend that demands the import of new organs and, afterward, new morals. Here, at least, is the forecast of your downfall:

Thursday

All the Saints Theater Company presents an Ides of March Parade in the park at Brook and Leigh at 6:30 p.m. There are puppets and, at Gallery5, spaghetti. Which sounds like a new holiday altogether. Third Thursdays at VMFA kicks off with Irish food and Celtic music from Tinker’s Dam (who are the busiest folks in the city this week), 6-9 p.m. Please don’t vomit in the Grecian urns.

Frydee

O’Toole’s Restaurant and Sin é perform their genetic duties by starting the weekend with music right after work. The former has the Greater Richmond Pipes and Drums, Glenn Crone, The Taters, Tinker’s Dam (follow the bouncing dam) and Harry Clary. The latter has SNS Blues and Naughty Little Monkey.

Shhaturtledey

Would that President’s Day were such an orgy! Downtown there’s Shamrock the Block with The Steepwater Band, Four Stories and others. In Festival Park there’s the St. Paddy’s Party in the Park with Carbon Leaf, the Janet Martin Band and Susan Greenbaum. Both Capital Ale Houses are up to no good, and O’Toole’s and Sin é continue their vigil against livers. Same with Positive Vibe and Rare Olde Times. For culture that doesn’t involve eating stomachs, Celtic stars Boys of the Lough play the Modlin Center at 7:30 p.m.

And Just When You Get the Annulment From the Mailbox …

The Irish Festival in Church Hill, March 24-25, returns. This is the pot of gold, loud and glorious and wallowing in its own sick. 304-6870.

Here is a complete list of the weekend events.
