This Carpenter Center performance was "one of the most troubled opening nights in the city's theater history." The curtain went up at 9 o'clock — an hour late. Then, the rain-making apparatus for the touring production of "Singin' in the Rain" didn't produce any precipitation. The sets either didn't descend far enough down from the fly gallery or came crashing to the stage. Regardless, theater critic Jerry Williams wrote, "... we got a flood of fun."
