Willie Ford Jr., 15, arrived wearing six 1st place medals from a recent swim meet he competed in. When told he resembled Michael Phelps with all of his Olympic medals, a proud smile appeared on his face.

The medals were for a 50 free style, 100 back stroke, 100 butterfly, 200 free style relay, and a 200 medley relay.

His personal favorite stroke is the back stroke, but anything to keep him in the water doing laps is fine by him.

He also won the 7th Annual National Black Heritage Championship swim meet in Cary, NC last year and plans to attend this spring. He is going for his 4th championship in a row at this particular meet.

At age 14 he set the record for the 100 yard backstroke time and he is a two time recipient for the Sportsmanship award in 2007 and 2008. His goal is to eventually become an Olympic swimmer.

In addition to being an amazing swimmer, Willie is also a great leader. He is currently the Captain of the Richmond Racers Swim Team.

Willie is also a student leader in the Armstrong Leadership Program. As a part of this program, he has exemplified a great attitude towards participating in community service projects.

On the weekends, Willie attends church service and plays a full drum set during praise and worship at his youth group. His favorite praise songs to jam out to are ‘Determined to Run all the Way' and ‘Let it Rise.'

As one of his favorite songs says, Willie is determined to run all the way (or perhaps swim) when it comes to becoming a future leader and Olympian.
