Who knows why some restaurants succeed and others fail miserably? Even more perplexing are the restaurants that succeed miserably. Some people say that location is key. But look at venerated Soble's. It lasted quite a while on the corner of Main and Robinson streets and had plenty of loyal customers. The Devil's Kitchen, Soble's replacement, managed to open and close within a year, and with a very similar menu. Pretty intimidating to anyone thinking of opening their own little shop. Yet, almost as soon as the doors where closed, we noticed activity going on at that Soble's/ Devil's Kitchen location, which suggests that somebody else is willing to step up and take a swing. We're still waiting to hear who's on deck. owners have already changed their minds about earning a living in Shockoe Slip. But they haven't totally given up on the business. They've just skedaddled up the street and planted their French-Vietnamese cuisine in the now closed Kimbo's Noodle Bar next to VCU, on the corner of Harrison and Cary streets.
