Wedding Wheels: Transportation Tips for Tying the Knot

Your preferred mode of transportation. Will you drive your own vehicle, borrow or rent one, or leave the driving to a hired professional? Personal preference and convenience prevail here as does your vision of how you want your big day to unfold.

Your budget. Are there funds available to hire a limousine for the entire wedding party, a shuttle service for your guests, or a horse drawn carriage for yourselves? To stay within your budget, get creative! Ask your uncle if, as his wedding present, he would consider chauffeuring you to the reception in his vintage car or use a limousine service that provides discounts for multiple rentals.

Your options. If renting a vehicle or hiring a driver, be sure to do some research and comparative shopping before making your final decision. Choose a company that is licensed by the state and insured, is part of a professional affiliation such as the National Limousine Association, has safe and professional drivers, and offers competitive rates.

Your master plan. Whatever mode of transportation you choose, be sure that everyone in the wedding party knows what the grand plan is, when and where they need to be, and how they will get there.

Put it in Writing. If you decide to go with a professional transportation service, it’s time to seal the deal with a written contract, which should include the following information:

Company contact person’s name and telephone number

Company driver and back-up driver’s names and telephone numbers

Vehicle’s make, model, year, and license plate number

Wedding party contact person’s name and telephone number

Bride and groom’s name, address and telephone numbers

Names, dates, times and addresses for transportation services

Driver’s duties and special directions (wait, one way trip, etc.)

Terms and cost of rental (should address extra fees for parking, overtime, etc.)

Cancellation policy

Insurance policy

Payment date

Dramatic Entrances, Grand Finales

Helicopter: Make a whirlwind entrance or exit.

Horse Drawn Carriage: Romance reigns as you are treated like royalty on your trip to the altar.

Hot Air Balloon: Take your match made in heaven to the skies.

Limousine: Receive star treatment in a chauffeured-driven stretch.
