We Were Promised Jetpacks first gained recognition at 2009’s South by Southwest largely because of its name (listed as one of the top 10 all-time band names by Paste magazine). Since then, the Scottish indie rockers have built a solid reputation on the strength of singer Adam Thompson’s dynamic song craft, propelled by Darren Lackie’s urgent drum work. This year will see a double shot of jetpack propulsion, with last month’s release of the band’s “E Rey” live album and a collection of new material planned for the fall. For this tour, the band adds keyboard player Stuart McGachan to leaven its big guitar sound. According to bass player Sean Smith, the band’s aspirations are simple: “We want people to go to sleep after a show with a smile on their face and their ears slightly ringing.” Honeyblood opens at the Camel on Sunday, March 9. $13 in advance and $15 at the door. thecamel.org.
