“Urinetown” at SPARC

March 13-23

A musical about corporate mismanagement and social irresponsibility called “Urinetown”? Genius. Where do I sign up? The humorous ode to greedy excess opens at SPARC, the School of the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community, on Thursday at the Sara Belle November Educational Theater. It features a cast of 13- to 18-year-olds lambasting the world they’re going to inherit. Written by Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis, “Urinetown” tackles the maddening contradictions inherent in American political and social culture in a musical language even children can understand. The satirical comedy won the Tony for best original score in 2002. For ticket information and a schedule of performances, call 353-3393 or visit sparconline.org.
