The Trillions essentially are the Substitutes without Prabir Mehta plus the drummer from the Awesome Few. They're still obsessed with '60s pop and rock and catchy lyrics, but compose their songs using more complex arrangements and vocal harmonies. The result is a strikingly urgent, almost mathlike, pop punch on their first EP, "Flux." The bass leads the way on "For the Better," a reflection about divorce rates in the United States. The staccato parts of the song work especially well in a live setting, where the band has synched up its instruments with a brilliant light show.
