The most expensive movie production of its time, “The Wizard of Oz,” wasn’t a box-office success. It wasn’t until 1956 when the film was broadcast on television that it began to leave its indelible mark on American culture. Richmond-based dance company Stavna Ballet presents its adaptation this weekend at the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. Founded in 2010 by artistic director Shannon Hunter McConville, the ballet’s classic-meets-contemporary dance style will feature the ruby slippers, flying monkeys and Wicked Witch who haunted generations of children’s dreams. Suitable for children of all ages, “The Wizard of Oz” ballet clicks its heels twice with performances Saturday, Jan. 24, at 5 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15.
