The Trioscapes play music-school metal freak-out jazz. It’s the type of music I imagine Frank Zappa would be making with John Zorn or Mr. Bungle if he were still alive. The North Carolina trio’s 2014 full-length release, “Digital Dream Sequence” on Metal Blade Records, is a combative fusion of divisive musical intentions. Modern prog rock workouts such as the contentious push pull of “Stab Wounds” and the equally choleric “Hysteria” are bitches-brew excursions into antagonized musicality. A concussive listening experience to be sure, but it’s one that will appeal to those rare few that like Slayer as much as the Mahavishnu Orchestra. The Trioscapes bring their jarring juxtapositions to Gallery5 on Monday, Dec. 1. An atmospheric duo from Greensboro, the Bronzed Chorus, and Richmond’s Half Bascule open. Doors are at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $7. gallery5arts.org.
