Films take on new meaning when soundtracks are removed — or put back in. That’s the idea at the heart of the Silent Music Revival series, the monthly event that screens a classic, short silent movie while a local band plays music to accompany it. The band doesn’t see the film beforehand and must improvise a score on the spot. Richmond musician Jameson Price started the event in Rumors Boutique to show off his love for silent movies and promote the local music scene, and it’s gained a steady following. This month’s show features the 1921 silent film “The Mechanical Man,” with a music score performed by hip-hop artist Ohbliv. The Silent Music Revival will project at Gallery5 on Sunday, June 23, at 8 p.m. Free. silentmusicrevival.blogspot.com.
