The National Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China at the Carpenter Theatre

Thursday, Oct. 16. 7:30 p.m.

Since helping to break the ice with a White House performance for then-President Richard Nixon, the National Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China have toured 500 cities in 70 countries. Up next: us. The world-renowned troupe brings its logic-defying combination of martial arts, traditional music, acrobatics, choreography and illusion to the Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage on Thursday, Oct. 16. With routines named “Kicking Bowls to Heads on High Unicycles,” “Russian Bars in Chinese Traditional Style” and “Chinese Poles in Shaolin Style,” these performers prove that the human body is a machine capable of infinite possibility. The highly entertaining display of flesh-and-bone nimbleness begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $11.50-$38. richmondcenterstage.com. — Chris Bopst
