With Richmond’s bearded folks represented on IFC’s “Whisker Wars” and in Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln,” it’s safe to say that Richmond’s home to some of the finest facial hair around. With that in mind, the Follicles of the James ’Stache and Beard League offers the second annual Mid-Atlantic Beard & ’Stache Championships, a contest showcasing the best beards in Richmond. There are 11 categories including mustache, partial beard, full beard and best in show. There are even two fake beard categories so that the ladies can get involved as well. Judges include Chris Adler, drummer for Lamb of God, former child actress Amy Sakasitz, Steve McKenna of “Drinking Made Easy,” Jesse Smith from Spike TV and 103.7 The River’s Melissa Chase. Proceeds go to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Richmond. Last year’s event at Strange Matter was so packed people had to be turned away at the door, so arrive early. The Mid-Atlantic Beard & ’Stache Championships take place Saturday, April 27, at the Canal Club. $10-$15. beardleague.org.
