- Mystery writer John Grisham.
The Associate. The Broker. The Partner. Now, the Inauguration.
Prolific mystery writer John Grisham will serve as co-chairman of governor-elect Terry McAuliffe's inauguration committee with Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones.
McAuliffe made the announcement in Richmond the day after the election. The committee's primary role is to raise money for the event and its ancillary balls and dinners.
As the Democratic mayor of Virginia's capital, Jones is a likely pick. But how'd Grisham get roped in? Well, he's fantastically wealthy, lives outside of Charlottesville and supported McAuliffe to the tune of $75,000 in the run-up to the election, according to campaign finance data compiled by the Virginia Public Access Project.
Grisham wasn't at the news conference with McAuliffe, but Jones was.
"We will do everything we can to put together an event that represents the values of our wonderful state and the values of our new governor," Jones said. "We take our positions as the capital city very seriously, and this is an opportunity to showcase the fact that we are a capital city, so I'm looking forward to it."
McAuliffe also tapped Delegate Jennifer McClellan, D-Richmond, to serve on his transition committee. She said she'll be "advising and giving input, helping to make decisions and getting people and résumés together." If you're looking for a job, her email address is email@example.com.
