The Lightfields are the lingering scent of teen spirit. The distorted guitar attacks, rise-and-fall dynamics and full-throttle releases were fragrances worn by Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Squirrel Bait and Pavement in the 1980s — and the Richmond band has made those sounds its own. Tunes from its 2014 release, “Junior,” such as the plodding “Mockingbird,” the unabashed pop of “Bats and Birds” and the “Hootenanny”-era, Replacements-inspired title track, are well conceived nods to the past that don’t listen like classic rock. The Lightfields celebrate five years of yesterday-is-today music-making with kindred Richmond spirits Imaginary Sons on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Emilio’s. Doors open for the all-ages show at 10 p.m. Free. emiliosrva.net.
