It can be said that Evan Dando and his band, the Lemonheads, were one of the main reasons ’90s alternative rock made it to the mainstream. The Lemonheads’ popularity exploded in 1992 with their major label album, “It’s a Shame About Ray,” and a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Mrs. Robinson.” After going on hiatus in 1997, the group reformed with a new lineup in 2005 and released the album “Varshons” in 2009, which brought back all the fans eager for more music. This year the Lemonheads released a 47-track, double-CD compilation, entitled “Laughing All the Way to the Cleaners: the Best of the Lemonheads.” Listen to those best when the Lemonheads perform at the Canal Club on Friday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. $15-$17. 643-2582.
