Poinsettias, known as Christmas plants, are popular symbols of the holiday season. But less known is the story behind them. Based on a Mexican fable, “The Legend of the Poinsettia” tells the story of a young girl who learns to give from her heart when she delivers a handful of weeds to the baby Jesus that turn into beautiful red flowers. The Latin Ballet’s production of the legend features the traditional festivities of dance and folk-inspired Christmas music popular in several Latin American countries to tell a holiday story that teaches the true spirit of giving. “Legend of the Poinsettia” runs Jan. 5-8 at the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. $15-$20. 379-2555.
