Barring the appearance of some legal document proving evidence to the contrary, it's easy to question whether Hold Steady frontman Craig Finn is the illegitimate son of Bruce Springsteen. Listening to the amazing work within 2005's “Separation Sunday,” 2006's “Boys and Girls in America,” and 2008's “Stay Positive,” it seems more than entirely possible. Led by Finn, the Brooklyn-based band revels in the honest, first-person poetry of back alley train wrecks, redemption-seeking boozers and romantics looking for any excuse to get out of town, mixing classic rock riffs with dive-bar-punk enthusiasm all the while. On tour supporting the release of the latest record “Heaven Is Whenever,” Hold Steady is scheduled to bring a joyful noise to the National on Monday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. $20-$23.
