The Downbeat Switch makes catchy pop music. Mixing the usual suspects of modern musical inspirations including funk, soul, R&B, rock, jazz and reggae, it manages to sound tightly cohesive despite its range of influences. “Birds Eye,” the quintet’s new 17-track release, conveys its bouncy soul with a precision that allows lead singer Jenna B. to shine brightly over the group’s instantly ingratiating grooves. If there were any justice in this world, the group already would be at the top of the mainstream charts. Until then, you can be content knowing a secret before the rest of world catches on. Downbeat Switch celebrates the release of its new CD Friday, Sept. 6, at the Tobacco Company. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is free. thetobaccocompany.com.
