The breakUps at the Triple

There's nothing so pure or good about real live garage rock that a humming, whining, buzzing organ can't make better. DC's the breakUps have a Zen master's ability to focus on that shining moment forty years ago, to filter out everything that came after — hair metal, grunge, that unfortunate cultural dalliance with rap rock. The band doesn't forsake punk, though. It's clean in its fuzziness, it's big in its simplicity. Not to be confused with an LA band of the same name (though even the band's own MySpace page gets mixed up, apparently, with a link to the West Coast version), The breakUps play the Triple with two Richmond outfits: the delightful LSD beach party of the Milkstains and the enthusiastic, perhaps slightly drunken rock of Seven Minutes. The show is Saturday, Feb. 14, at 9:30 p.m. $5. 359-7777. — Brandon Reynolds
