Raw, gritty and danceable, garage is one of rock’s most durable subgenres. The main reason is that psychotic reactions never go out of style. The pushing-too-hard sound of Richmond’s Ar-Kaics is proof. The group’s frenzied soul and roll draws much of its manic energy from the Sonics without losing anything in the translation. The same holds true for the rest of bands on the bill. Providence’s Atlantic Thrills, Brooklyn’s Dirty Fences and Nancy from New Orleans all employ a no-frills, mid-’60s bravado to get their respective parties started. They all play Thursday, March 6, at Strange Matter. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is $7. strangematterrva.com.
