Started in 1993 by Peter and Françoise Kirkpatrick, the French Film Festival has become a beloved cultural event in Richmond. The professors of French literature, culture and film studies at Virginia Commonwealth University and University of Richmond (he’s a Ram, she’s a Spider) have been at this for the last 21 years. They and their dedicated team of volunteers show films that Richmond audiences, and most of the world, for that matter, probably never would see if it weren’t for their efforts. The renowned festival will screen 17 French feature films and 14 short movies in four days, holding discussions, meetings and socials with the creators. Our annual embarrassment of riches takes place Thursday through Sunday at the Byrd Theatre. For a schedule visit frenchfilmfestival.us.
