Tegan and Sara at the National

Thursday, Feb. 18.

Spending their early years in the late '90s as a teenage folk-rock duo in the Canadian music scene, identical twin sisters Tegan and Sara Quin have since transformed into a pair of mature indie-rock songwriters. Delivering the kind of smart, well-constructed tunes that reflect the pair's individual personalities (Tegan leaning toward a more direct poppier feel and Sara toward an arrangement's quirkier highlights), the sisters took their balanced infectiousness to breakout status with the 2007 album, “The Con,” produced by Death Cab for Cutie's Chris Walla. Supporting their recently released follow-up “Sainthood,” Tegan and Sara are scheduled to perform at the National on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m., $30-$33.50.
