Sugar Shack Burlesque takes it slow at the Firehouse Theatre

No matter how many gyms offer stripper-pole workout classes or how many Brooklyn-based vaudeville collectives march through town, a burlesque act still just comes across as something slightly improper. You're bound to teeter along the line of moral rectitude when you spend an evening watching women parade around in vintage costumes and strip down to selective garments all while peppering in suggestive humor, dance numbers and general inappropriateness. From the playbook of co-producers RunAround Sue and Legs Malone, the ladies of Sugar Shack Burlesque present “Slow and Steady” at the Firehouse Theatre, featuring a night of music, comedy and dance inspired from the 1920s, '30s and '40s, as well as some smoke-and-mirrors magic on July 31 at 9 p.m. $20. 1609 W. Broad St. 355-2001. — Mike Hilleary
