Richmonders Autumn Carter and Meredith McGlohon are making their organic way of life their way of conducting business. The local entrepreneurs recently renamed their 201 N. Robinson St. salon Red Salon Organics (it was originally Red Salon), and just about everything you may encounter there -- be it shampoo, hair color, paper towels, drinking glasses or coffee has been purchased with eco-friendliness and wellness in mind.
"I felt like our industry was making a big impact on the environment, just with chemicals, preservatives, synthetics and carcinogens, and I thought, I don't want to be a part of that anymore," says Carter, who started the business in 2004 and invited McGlohon on board the following year. "I don't want to sell things to people that I don't personally want to use."
Among the hair-care lines offered are Organic Care Systems, John Masters Organics and Aveda all of which are carefully screened by the conscientious owners, who hope to one day develop their own product line.
"It's not about the eco ego," McGlohon says. "We personally want to make a difference."
