In 1978 four musicians and friends created a band born from a mutual love of blues, swing and rock ’n’ roll music. During the next decade, the Skip Castro Band became a staple along the East Coast playing every bar, club and college it could find. Called one of the best party bands around, it shared the stage with such big names as Muddy Waters, Big Joe Turner, Bo Diddley, James Brown, Chuck Berry, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Kenny Loggins and a host of others. The group stopped playing full time in 1989 to focus on various other projects and play with other musicians, but its members discovered they were more satisfied playing when the four got together. The Skip Castro Band performs with the Nighthawks at the Canal Club on Friday, Dec. 28, at 7 p.m. $20-$23. thecanalclub.com.
