Where to go. What to hear.

Cinco de Mayo on Brown's Island

Richmond's swingers will be pleased: Big Bad Voodoo Daddy headlines this year's party to benefit Stop Child Abuse Now. Filling out the ranks are pop rockers Fighting Gravity, salsa impresarios Bio Ritmo, a serving of Jimmy Buffett in the form of B2B, Wes Tucker and the Skillets, synth pop from The Gaskets, Americana from Wrinkle Neck Mules and Special Ed and the Shortbus doing that bluegrass thing they do. The show is May 1, noon-7 p.m. Tickets are $8-$10, available at Plan 9 Music.

Kylesa at Alley Katz

Rolling up from Savannah, Georgia, Kylesa brings a little more metal to the River City. They add something sludgy, loud and, at times, a little psychedelic and call it Kylesa. Richmond connection? They've been signed to Prosthetic Records, once upon a time the label of our own Lamb of God. They play with Sword, Born Dead and Are You F—ing Serious? April 27, 9 p.m.-2 a.m. $5. 643-2816.

MDC at Nanci Raygun

Twenty-five years ago, a band came out of Austin called Millions of Dead Cops. They were a punk band, of course, and railed against a a government that was militaristic and, for them, the ultimate in repression. The acronym has changed a few times: Multi-Death Corporation, Millions of Damn Christians, and now, with a reunion tour rolling through Richmond, they add Magnus Dominus Corpus to the roster. Don't worry: A quarter century later, they've still got plenty to rail against, which they will do April 28. The Goons, Direct Control, Social Dropouts and A Common Enemy open at 5 p.m. $8.
