Set List

Where to go. What to hear.

Last Chance to See …

The Upper East Side, which is closing its doors Nov. 30 after giving the North Side large servings of jazz and R&B for almost two years. It's going out with a big bang, though — a big brass bang. Soulful crooner Adrian Duke is backed up by the Upper East Side Big Band with openers Doctors of Jazz, starting at 7 p.m. $5. 467-6182.

Rah Bras at Nanci Raygun

As far as full-bore operatic energy is concerned, Richmond's Rah Bras deliver a live show and a synth-orchestra sound that might honor your hard-earned dollar more than, say, certain larger-scale productions of certain famous operas. And opera doesn't use the robot voice quite so well. Nor does opera have "fun-core" opener VCR or the Sand Cats, Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. $6. 353-4263.

Larry Keel and Natural Bridge at Cary Street Café

As far as traditional Virginia bluegrass is concerned, these guys have Commonwealth mountain goodness right there on the label. A little fiddle-plucking and mandolinery are a good way to usher in the holidays, Dec. 3 at 10 p.m. $15. 353-7445.
