As of Nov. 25, it’s been 50 days since same-sex marriage has been legal in Virginia. Through the end of last week, same-sex couples accounted for nearly a quarter of all marriage licenses issued in the Richmond area.

Courts in Richmond, Henrico and Chesterfield issued 169 marriage licenses to same-sex couples since Oct. 6, when the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal of a lower-court’s verdict striking down the state’s ban.

Of the licenses issued, 94 were in Richmond, 39 were in Henrico County and 36 were issued in Chesterfield County.

During the same time period, those court clerks issued a total of 698 marriage licenses.
