With a litany of recent human failures including former Gov. Bob McDonnell’s epic fall from grace and Mayor Dwight Jones’ proclivity for proposing urban renewal absurdities, some say Richmond has gone to the dogs. Argue that as you will, but the city literally is going to the dogs Sunday, Sept. 21, for RVA Fido Fest on Brown’s Island. The family-friendly event is a celebration of man’s best friend with activities, demonstrations and vendors for canines and their owners to enjoy together. Performances by Party of Four, 20 Somethang and Vinyl Headlights may not entrance our furry, four-legged friends, but Olate Dogs — the dog trick 2012 winners of “America’s Got Talent” — should draw their interest. At least when they aren’t too busy sniffing butts. A portion of the pooch day proceeds benefit the Richmond SPCA. The tail-wagging festivities run from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission is $5-$10. Children younger than 12 are free.
