Robert Earl Keen at Toad's Place

It's just about close enough to the holidays that Robert Earl Keen will bust out that great drunken sing-along, “Merry Christmas with the Family.” And it'll mean just as much to the dysfunctionally familied audience singing along with him even if we're not past the Thanksgiving hump just yet. The country-folk troubadour's most famed good-times tunes, like “Corpus Christi Bay” and “Copenhagen,” have mellowed through years of live performance, getting funkier or jammier, and sometimes it seems rather like the crowd is carrying the energy of the songs. But when he's on, as often he is in Richmond, Keen manages to get us all around that dinner table, howling about Marlboro Lights and tampons. He plays Toad's Place with opener Corb Lund Saturday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. $20-$25. 648-TOAD. — Brandon Reynolds
