A transgender person is 400 times more likely to be assaulted or murdered, despite making up less than 2 percent of the world’s population. In the United States, there were 45 documented acts of violence against transgender individuals in 2014 — and that’s just what was reported. The Transgender Day of Remembrance will be held Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Byrd Theatre, with musical performances, speakers and a candlelight vigil for victims. The service is part of a week of events at the University of Richmond’s downtown campus, the Speakeasy, the Gay Community Center of Richmond and the Richmond Triangle Players. The memorial is 7-9 p.m. equalityvirginia.org.
