A collection of award winning shorts: Left Undone, Kieza, Now Appearing in Bucharest, Soy Cubana “Left Undone” directed by Nathan Clarke – The toil of caring for an ailing and stubborn father compels a defeated middle-aged man to consider the unthinkable. “Kieza” directed by Coyote Vadio – It is a story about a boy and his father, about a boy and his country. It is a coming of age conflict set in Angola, in 2016, where freedom to choose is not yet what it should be. “Now Appearing in Bucharest” directed by Ro Lawrence – Bucharest may or may not be the Paris of the East, but it certainly is a daily dance between history and the present. In this short experimental film a montage of concert posters announcing upcoming performances dance their inevitable passage into the past… a meditation on the precarity of the popular… loose change from a libidinal economy. “Soy Cubana” directed by Robin Miller Ungar – Winners of the 2016 CUBADISCO Award for best vocal group, the Vocal Vidas are a female a cappella quartet from Santiago de Cuba – the cradle of Afro-Cuban music. This documentary explores their unique sound and tells the story of crafting a musical career in a society in which artistic merit is not measured solely by economic success.
