Are the Toast of the Town this Season

Taking their lead from spring's feminine and flirty styles, this summer's wedding gowns feature sexy, sophisticated silhouettes, a variety of skirts, and eye-catching details, such as simple bows, romantic sashes, and subtle ruffles that adroitly take tradition and trend to new fashion levels. Other popular gown and accessory embellishments of the season include lace, faux fur and beadwork accents, and sparkling rhinestone brooches.

Striking bursts of color in the form of inlays, bows, satin ribbon straps, and vintage brooches pinned at the neckline and waistline add subtle glamour and glitz to this season's gorgeous gowns, as do gold and silver beading and trimmed lace accents. A hint of colored jewels coordinated to the season (i.e. emeralds for the summer, rubies for the fall) make brides look positively radiant as well. Flowers, tiaras, antique brooches and s-clips are the crowing glory when worn as a headpiece. Longer trains and veils remain popular too, as do shawls and wraps.

For a red carpet, Hollywood look, choose a strapless dress or the popular Mermaid gown that, like its namesake, is a seductive creation highlighting curves as it clings to the body before flaring out at the bottom with a soft fluted hem.

For a less formal look, tea-length gowns are perfect for warm weather weddings, as are those made of soft, silky, and lighter weight fabrics. Fall bridal fashions favor longer hemlines and heavier fabrics, like velvet.

Romantic destination dresses, once typically worn on tropical beaches, are becoming more mainstream at weddings these days. Comprised primarily of chiffon, silk charmeuse and crepe, these popular close cut gowns with no train are ideal for warm weather weddings.

Fitting the season's warm temperatures, lightweight fabrics for brides and bridesmaids' dresses this season include satin, organza and lace. Color continues to be a popular addition to gowns, with sage, sea foam, soft pink and pale blue taking center stage at weddings this summer. In the fall, pewter, lilac and wine will be the colors of choice.
