The brothers Carney toured throughout the United States and Europe with various bands before realizing that one of the best ways to make music is to make it a family affair. Ultimately, the trio found itself holed up in a studio back home in the Blue Ridge Mountains hammering out heavy riffs and wandering melodies with a slightly Southern kick. After a handful of homegrown releases, the group landed with indie label Thrill Jockey. Pontiak's latest, “Living,” brings a taste of acid rock and a whole lot of thick bass and prog-metal guitar. The band members kindly recommend that you listen from start to finish and in the album's entirety. We recommend you do the same at their show. These Virginians bring their assault to Gallery5 on May 14 at 7 p.m., with label mates Arbouretum. Tickets are $8.
