Used car salesmen. Plaid suits. Greasy personalities.
You’ll find none of these tropes at CarMax, America’s largest used-car retailer. Founded in Richmond in 1993, CarMax innovated the industry with its mix of web-based retailing and its thorough dismantling of the notion of a greasy used car salesman. Now a Fortune 500 company, CarMax subjects its cars to a 125-point inspection and offers 90-day warranties on its vehicles.
While there’s no guarantee that you won’t get a lemon in the used car world, CarMax does what it can to lessen that chance.
In the era of the coronavirus, CarMax has stepped up its cleaning and disinfecting, is practicing social distancing, and, unless state law prohibits it, is allowing people to test drive their cars without a store associate.
