Of Montreal at the Canal Club

Thursday, May 23. 7 p.m. $15-$18.

The brainchild of singer and guitarist Kevin Barnes, Of Montreal creates euphoric indie pop with elements of psychedelia thrown in. The group’s debut album, 1997’s “Cherry Peel,” quickly threw the band into the spotlight and it hasn’t slowed down since. It’s released one successful album after another, earning a top spot among indie-music’s elite. The group’s new album, “Lousy with Sylvianbriar,” written when Barnes undertook a self-imposed isolation experiment in San Francisco, will be released this fall. Of Montreal performs at the Canal Club on Thursday, May 23, at 7 p.m. $15-$18. thecanalclub.com. — Andrew Cothern
