Naughty Expo Plans Return to Richmond

Last year's inaugural RVA Adult Expo may have gotten off to a rocky start, founder Anthony Mijares says. But he promises the sequel will be bigger and better.

The Oct. 4 event, which has moved to the RVA Theatre — in the same building as Off the Hookah at 140 Virginia St. — will feature appearances by adult actors, dancers, disc jockeys, mixed-martial-arts fighters and Jell-O wrestling alongside entertainment vendors.

"It's more fan-focused," Mijares says. "There's going to be nonstop live performances from the time we open the door to the time we close the door."

Mijares says his second attempt at the expo likely will avoid the controversy he found last year, when the hotel where it was booked tried to back out of its contract. The anti-human-trafficking group Richmond Justice Initiative also protested the event, citing studies that show a link between trafficking and the pornography industry.

The initiative's executive director, Sara Pomeroy, says it's unlikely the group will protest again: "We're concentrating on our work."

More than 600 people attended last year's event, organizers say. General admission tickets, available at rvaadultxpo.com, are $20, with an available $10 after-party upgrade. VIP choices range from $75 to a $325 gold package, which includes a hotel room. That option has sold out.
