National Group Surveys Local Artists, Considers Building Live-Work Studios

Citing positive results from a preliminary study, a national nonprofit is investigating the construction of live-work studios for Richmond artists.

Artspace Projects now wants to hear from area artists. The group, which operates artist communities around the country, has set up a 10-minute online survey. It asks artist about their medium and their current living and studio situation. The survey also gauges interest in whether they’re interested in renting studio space or relocating to an artist live-work studio, and if so, in what neighborhood.

“The results of the survey will help Artspace Projects determine the size of the market … for affordable live/work housing, studio and public space of various kinds,” according to a statement released by the city, which is a partner in the project.
