Regarding "Defending the 'Megaspammer'" (Back Page, Oct. 10), Thomas Wolf's constitutional arguments are nothing but a red herring. Jeremy Jaynes didn't use anonymity to avoid persecution for his political or religious beliefs. He used it to con people through fraudulent e-mail scams. He sent millions of e-mails to hundreds of thousands of stolen AOL and eBay user addresses. He grossed over $24 million from various fraudulent and illegal schemes. There may be a case to be made for exempting noncommercial e-mail broadcasts from the Virginia statute, but that case wouldn't exonerate Jaynes. Nine years in prison for spam? Good riddance.
