After being shot and injured Wednesday night, a local man drove five miles to the nearest Applebee’s, where he reported the incident.

Richmond Police haven’t released the victim’s name, but a spokesman for the department says the case is “developing very rapidly.”

The general manager at the Laburnum Avenue Applebee’s in eastern Henrico County declined to discuss the incident yesterday, and instructed staff who were on duty that night to do the same.

Police say the man was shot in Richmond’s East End at 10:40 p.m. on the 1300 block of Coalter Street. The victim told police he didn’t know the shooter.

Police said the man suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at VCU Medical Center, which is a little over a mile from where the shooting occurred.

On his way into the shopping plaza that houses the restaurant, the man would have had to drive by at least two other franchises: a Taco Bell and a Cook Out.
