The little station that could, WRIR 97.3 FM, celebrates its third year of radio radicalism with a Party for the Rest of Us at the Renaissance Ballroom Friday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m. If you didn't know, the young vandals behind this operation have the audacity to play music that hasn't been sanctioned and anointed by the powers that be of what's left of the music industry. Nor do they respect time-tested broadcast traditions like favoritism, homogeneity and, my personal favorite, payola. A look at the bill for their little party -- No BS Brass Band, Erin Tobey, Dead Goats and Tulsa Drone suggests it was assembled without the help of a slick radio consultant working out of a high-rise in downtown Los Angeles. At least they have the decency to ask for money. Suggested donation: $10. 622-WRIR.
