Lovers Reggae

For the casual listener, reggae music began with the late Bob Marley in the 1970s and ended with the inception of dancehall in the '90s. This is a popular and unfortunate misconception that leaves out, among other things, the contributions of reggae journeymen such as Gregory Isaacs. The enduring singer is known for his potent love songs, done in the "lovers rock" style of reggae. He's released 13 albums since his first in 1975, and his hit "Night Nurse" has been covered by blue-eyed soul outfit Simply Red and recently by dancehall artist Lady Saw. Isaacs performs with Live Wya, Rootz Underground and Antero at Toad's Place Tuesday, March 18. $20-$25. 648-TOAD.
