After attending a three-day conference on historic preservation sponsored by Preservation Virginia and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, I re-read Style Weekly’s cover story by Edwin Slipek, “The Nine Most Endangered Places in Richmond,” March 28. It is a marvelous piece of journalism enhanced with editorial comment, and I hope Style will continue to publish stories on historic preservation.
Although Richmond has lost many historic buildings, some at the hands of the Confederate government during the 1865 evacuation fire, the city has much to be proud of and many people who want to save what remains. I’m sure that people like Bill Martin at the Valentine and Cyane Crump, executive director of the Historic Richmond Foundation, will be happy to assist in any stories you publish on this subject. In the meantime, please let Mr. Slipek know how much I enjoyed his piece.
