Lacey McKinney’s oil paintings live between worlds. Conceived as anti-portraits, her layered, figurative renderings eschew literal portraiture to present the human form as an evolving entity with blurred, overlapping imagery. The colorful ambiguity of the subjects in her exhibition, “I Am You,” at the Ghostprint Gallery, conveys life in transition as if several planes of existence shared the same time and place. This is esoteric cosmology that conveys its phantasmagoric symbolism with elucidatory skill. Like Marcel Duchamp’s “Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2,” McKinney’s work reflects the movement of life merging in and out of itself. “I Am You” opens Friday, May 2, 6-9 p.m., at the Ghostprint Gallery.
