It's a Jazz Thing

The performances at the Monterey International Pop Music Festival in 1967, became landmarks in the careers of legendary performers such as Otis Redding and Jimi Hendrix. While the coastal city is famed for those two days in June decades ago, it's also the home of longest continually running jazz festival in the world. Now, veteran and upstart players with connections to the festival are bringing the music of Monterey to the Landmark Theater Feb. 17. The concert features Terence Blanchard (trumpet), James Moody (saxophone), Benny Green (piano), Nnenna Freelon (vocalist), Derrick Hodge (bass) and Kendrick Scott (drums). $22-$32. 289-8990.- Craig Belcher
