Is That G-String Impressionist?

Because it’s about time somebody figured out that sex not only sells, but it can sell anything, from aesthetic principles to political viewpoints to whole new perspectives. That Richmond is getting the Sex Workers’ Art Show means either this city’s opening up like a flower, or City Hall hasn’t heard yet. What it is, precisely, is what might happen if your id left your head and decided to go on tour. Led by Annie Oakley, the tour is a collection of performance art, burlesque, spoken word and music from this fine nation’s sex workers — the porn stars, prostitutes and stripper-historians who fulfill a need older than rug burns. They’re also writers and teachers and opera singers and dancers like Dirty Martini here, named “Best Body in Burlesque” at the New York Burlesque Festival, and it’s safe to say you will be unable to avoid learning something from the variety of (free) performances Sunday, Feb. 11, at 8:30 p.m. in the VCU Student Commons, Commons Theater. 828-4554.
