One year and one six-inch scar after his first bike accident, Cloak/Dagger bassist Collin Barth was involved in bike accident number two, which left him with a broken right hand. Luckily, he was healed in time for the band's CD release of "We Are," which heralds a new era of raw, incendiary punk and was released on Jade Tree Records.
The Sept. 29 Fist City Fury festival will feature about a dozen local bands both inside and out at Toad's Place, including Down to Nothing, Government Warning, Landmines, Duchess of York and Richmond ex-pats Direct From Hollywood Cemetery. Speaking of which, Direct From Hollywood Cemetery lead singer Dr. Phineas Fangs once provided vocals for the legendary screaming punk band Action Patrol. He'll resume that role for the decade-in-the-making Action Patrol reunion show on Dec. 1 at Alley Katz.
Modern rockers HalfBrother Sid have been accepted to do an extensive tour of military bases in the Pacific Rim. They begin in Japan, head to Singapore, and end at Diego Garcia, a tiny island in the Indian Ocean. The group is looking forward to providing entertainment and moral support to our troops throughout the month of October.
Our Stable Violent Star has implod-ed, playing their final show this month. The members will now be moving on to their various new projects, including the mellower Lellow the boulder-heavy Parthenon, and a newly reformed (but no less chaotic) Jefferson Planecrash.
After realizing they'd all somehow stopped playing music for some five years, the Lawyer brothers -- Chris, Curtis and Craig started writing and practicing together again as Mad Elephant. Filling out their bluesy rock is brother-in-law Stephen Bider, who also beats the skins with Mike Gales and the Warriorz.
Several local metal acts have recorded new CDs at Separated Music Studios. Separation just released its second full-length album called "Rise of Kings," plus a major change occurred as keyboardist Mark Sumpter left the band and guitarist Jeff Raatz, formerly of Site of Suffering, was brought in to replace him. Separated Music has also finished the new Bullistic CD called "Ride the Line," as well as the Fallen Under release "Without Compromise," and is currently working on the new Southern Vein record.
