Now don't overreact, crazed doughnut fans. Dixie Donuts is still open in Carytown, but those in the West End are out of luck. Their location on West Broad Street near Innsbrook will close on Saturday, Nov.1.

At the beginning of the year, the former Daylight Donuts, located in that spot, became Dixie Donuts. Owners Betsey Harrell Thomas and J Frank partnered with Daylight's owners, Joanne Ellis and Lance Elwood, to continue Daylight's mission of employing those with disabilities. (Ellis and Elwood also own Career Support Systems, an agency that helps disabled people find jobs.)

"The original Daylight lease is up for renewal, and we either sign on for another five years or we get out now," says Thomas. "Will gourmet donuts still be big in five years? Who knows? We sincerely wish the best of luck to those who want to find out."
