Many artistic works make a deal of deceiving the casual observer. Michael-Birch Pierce’s new show, “Honesty in Artifice,” looks at the honest truth behind the work. Pierce, who received a bachelor’s degreee in fashion design at Virginia Commonwealth University, uses the medium of personal adornment to peer into the minds of his subjects, past the superficial and hopefully exposing the true self. As for himself, Pierce is working on his master’s degree thesis in fibers at Savannah College of Art and Design. His work has been shown at the White House, the Smithsonian and in numerous galleries. Michael-Birch Pierce’s “Honesty in Artifice” opens at Quirk Gallery with an artist’s reception on Thursday, Jan. 3, and runs through Feb. 22. quirkgallery.com.
